It’s the holiday time of year, but, it’s also the color prediction time of year. This is when all the color experts, (yes, there is such a thing) make their predictions on what the next hot color trends will be. Both Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore have chosen a form of white as their color of the year. If you read my color prediction article last month then you know what I think of that choice! (You can read it here.) Yesterday Pantone, the biggest color expert in the industry, named a shade of pastel pink and blue as their two colors of the year. I think this is SPOT ON! Pastels have made a strong comeback recently, and if you’ve been following me on Pinterest then you know that for the last month I have been obsessively posting rooms featuring a beautiful blush pink color on a dedicated Pinterest Board I recently created. In other words, Pantone and I are on the same color wavelength! (See what I did there?)
So what does this all mean for you? Well, it doesn’t mean to run out and paint your house any of these predicted colors. It simply means that these are the colors you’ll see when paging through shelter magazines and websites. They are the current trends. If you’re looking to update your home’s color palette, then the best thing to do is call a professional that can truly assess your home’s needs, style, and lighting situation. I am in love with that soft pink. I agree with you and Pantone. Pink is making a comeback! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your comment, Melanie. I’m in love with that soft pink, too!
I love this Alicia, the message to home homeowners is so important, I think some people panic when they see the color of the year come out and think they have to run out and fill their homes with that color.
Thanks for your comment, Mod Interiors!
Great article, Alicia! I, too, like the soft pinks but prefer the color in small doses. I think they’re beautiful in a bedroom or a bathroom- soft, cozy, inviting!
Thanks for your comment, Jennifer. – I too agree that small doses are best, if not you can wind up looking like you covered the room in Pepto Bismal!
