McNight Residence, Newbury Park

The owners of this hillside home wanted to update their entryway, living room and dining room to reflect their personalities and increase the function of their spaces for their family of five. Copper mosaic tile was applied to the fireplace, custom designed cabinetry and wall shelving created an entryway and media center, and textured ceramic tile was applied to an accent wall in the dining room to create texture and depth. The success of this detailed project was made possible by a close collaboration between designer, clients and sub-contractors. All custom cabinetry and shelving crafted locally by Jason Plew of Vintage Woodwork.

Other updates included replacing a plate glass sidelight with custom leaded glass designed and fabricated by a local artist, made-to-order wall sconce, locally made custom seating, roller shades for two sliders and dining room furniture.

Environmentally friendly materials for this project included products made in USA or Canada, recycled copper and ceramic for both the fireplace and dining room tile, sustainably forested American wood, local fabrication of furniture, GreenGuard roller shades, natural fiber rugs, and the reuse of some existing furniture. The clients generously donated their unwanted furniture to a local charity.
