Happy New Year and Happy New Color of the Year! At the end of every year, predictions are made about which color will be the most influential for fashion and home decor. Pantone is the lead color forecaster in the industry, and they have named Radiant Orchid to be the 2014 color of the year. Radiant Orchid is described as captivating, magical and enchanting. In home decor, Radiant Orchid makes a lovely accent color but also works well as a main color. This soft color blends well with golds, silvers and a variety of different woods which makes it the perfect fit with this year’s hot trend toward mixing materials.
If the pink undertones in Radiant Orchid seem a bit too feminine for you, Sherwin-Williams has also chosen their color of the year, Exculsive Plum (SW 6263). This is a sophisticated color that’s elegant yet easy; it’s refined without being stuffy. While Pantone’s choice is a purple with pink undertones, the Sherwin-Williams choice is a purple with grey undertones.
Lastly, Benjamin Moore has made their prediction, which varies a bit in both tone and intensity from the other choices. Breath of Fresh Air (806) is a lovely powdery pale sky blue that Benjamin Moore is describing as a “new neutral”. This color very light, very fresh and very serene.
What do you think? Can you see yourself incorporating any of these beautiful colors into your home decor?
