Color of the Year
It’s the time of year when paint companies choose their color of the year. Benjamin Moore has already declared Simply White as the 2016 Color of the Year. As far as whites go, this is a fantastic one. Simply White is a warm white that is clean versatile. It looks fresh paired with either a warm or cool palette, however, white can be hard to work with if you don’t know how to style it. Painting a room white can give it a cold and sterile feel if the room’s furnishings are not layered for depth and texture. And, let’s face it, is white even a color? Don’t get me wrong, I love white rooms. I’ve been drooling over all white rooms on Pinterest and Houzz for the past couple of years now, and just love the Scandanavian aesthetic, but that’s just it. White’s been around for awhile. It’s not forward thinking. I want to see what’s next, not what’s been happening.
So, without further ado, I give you Alicia Paley’s 2016 Color of the year.
Navy Blue
You’d have to be living under a rock to not have noticed this beautiful gem of a color popping out in current fashion and home furnishings. Navy blue, sometimes referred to as indigo, is a deep, rich color full of emotion. It is not a color to be ignored. It can make a room moody and dark in the most wonderful ways. Used as an accent color, it can turn a bland space into a dynamic one by presenting just the right amount of drama.
Here are 5 of my favorite navy blue paint colors:
